Red Robin Gourmet Burgers
2010-07-23 06:58:22
I never expect fantastic wings from a burger joint, but I decided to give the Red Robin "buzzard wings" a try after getting a sample of the wing sauce.

Boy was I surprised.

These wings weren't overcooked, were extremely tasty and had a distinct "non Buffalo" quality to them while still packing enough heat to clear the sinuses.

I suggest getting a side of their wing sauce because I found that dipping the wings in the extra sauce really added the kick that pushed these wings from good to amazing.

Highly recommend you give them a try.

This place definitely has the old Irish pub feel with the wooden partitions and beer label decorations. Very cool atmosphere, but the partitions make it feel a little cramped in some areas.

The wings were affordable, $8 for a plate of ten - which is expensive by wing night standards but par for the course any other day.

The wings themselves were a little overcooked, but had a decent flavor and medium heat. What made these wings awesome was the white gorgonzola dipping sauce they came with - very different than your normal ranch or bleu cheese.1

This place is a San Marcos local favorite - a british style pub with an unbelieveable list of beers from around the world. When I stopped in it wasn't their wing night (which is Wednesday), but I ordered 10 of their buffalo flavored wings and a friend of mine ordered 5 buffalo and 5 of their Thai flavored wings.

The buffalo sauce itself was very flavorful and was just spicy enough to clear the sinuses - but not mouth burning. Mine were a little undercooked, but overall very enjoyable.

The Thai wings were quite honestly disgusting - it was like someone bought Thai peanut dipping sauce and just smothered the wings with it right out of the fryer.

This place is deceiving because it looks like your a typical beach bar, but they have a really amazing selection of wings and an all-you-can-eat wing night. We had a wing eating contest here once and I was very impressed with the flavor of their diablo wings - ate almost 40 of them in an evening.
San Diego Brewing Company

This place is probably the best wing place in the San Diego area. Their suicide wings are made with habaneros and are the hottest I've ever eaten by far. On wing night they sell a "roulette" with 18 hot wings and 2 suicide wings - but they dont tell you which is which. I'm a regular customer here and highly recommend it
Callahan's Pub & Brewery

This brewery is owned by the same people who run San Diego Brewing Company, so the wings here are the same recipe (hot & suicide etc). I've not been on their wing night, but I've heard from friends that it's a pretty popular occasion.

The boneless firehouse wings at D&B are a decent appetizer, but despite their menu description don't expect them to be very spicy. Good flavor, but nothing special

Small little pizza joint with New York decor that had very friendly and personable staff. I had the boneless hot wings for lunch and they had a really great flavor (they even garnished them with a little parsley) but they weren't too spicy overall.

A great brewery in itself, but the wings here are really unique because they dont separate the drum and flat part. Not the hottest in town, but great flavor and 10 wings here is a LOT of food.
